Engineering Innovation Challenge (EIC) 2026

Engineering the New Future: Unlocking Opportunities through Emerging Technologies

   The Engineering Innovation Challenge (EIC) 2026 invites students to harness emerging technologies to reimagine systems, optimise resources, and develop innovative engineering solutions that contribute to a sustainable circular economy.

About the Challenge

   EIC 2026 is a hands-on competition open to students from secondary schools, junior colleges, ITE, polytechnics, and universities (excluding postgraduates and researchers).
   Participants will conceptualise, design, and build a prototype or model that addresses real-world challenges, guided by engineers and industry professionals. The Challenge aims to develop students’ skills in:

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Design thinking and innovation
  • Prototyping and technical development
  • Communication and teamwork

Key Focus Areas

   Participants are required to develop solutions under one of the following areas:

  • Energy (e.g. fossil fuels, renewable energy, electric vehicles)
  • Space and Technology
  • Water Security and Food Supply Chain
  • Digital Transformation
  • Enablers for Healthcare and Ageing Population

Key Dates

  • 12 April 2026 (Sunday) – Registration Deadline
  • 24 April 2026 (Friday) – Release of Proposal Submission Link
  • 18 – 25 May 2026 – Phase A: Evaluation of Submissions (Written Proposal & Problem Statement)
  • 26 May 2026 – Announcement of Finalists
  • 28 May – 23 July 2026 – Phase B: Prototype Development
  • 24 – 31 July 2026 – Preliminary Scoring
  • 11 & 12 August 2026 – Final Judging (Phase C)
  • 14 August 2026 – NED-EIC 2026 Prize Presentation Ceremony

Submission Requirements

Proposal Submission

  • Maximum 500 words
  • Must follow the official template
  • Clearly state the problem, proposed solution, and methodology
  • Align with one of the five focus areas

Prototype Development

  • Shortlisted teams will develop a working prototype or model
  • Teams will present their solutions during the final judging round
