The Engineering Innovation Challenge (EIC) is a competition organised by The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), with support from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the industry.

EIC was previously known as the Energy Innovation Challenge, a competition launched in 2015 with funding support until 2018. On 9 Jan 2019, the steering committee decided to adopt the acronym ‘EIC’ for the Engineering Innovation Challenge 2019. The aim is to build upon the proven framework used by past editions of the competition to drive greater success.

2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the competition which will focus on the theme, “Innovating a Circular Economy through Engineering”.

Continuing the tradition, this year’s challenge extends an exceptional chance for students from secondary schools, junior colleges, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), polytechnics and universities to embark on a transformative learning journey.

They will delve into the core of innovation, honing their technical expertise in prototyping and product development while fostering their abilities in presentation and collaboration. Under the mentorship of experienced practising engineers and academia, every participant will gain valuable experience in not only imagining but taking action to shape a better, more sustainable world. Furthermore, EIC winners stand to walk away with attractive cash prizes with your teammates!
